AUSVEG has confirmed it will not be joining the new Voice of Horticulture representative group.
Despite being one of the larger horticulture bodies itself, the vegetable body said it had no plans to be part of the Voice of Horticulture (VoH).
Ausveg deputy CEO Andrew White said the organization already has excellent relationships across the political spectrum and in the media.
“We are currently preoccupied with progressing our own issues,” Mr White said.
“Ausveg supported the previous Horticulture Taskforce for a number of years as an effective but low cost coalition, however, we have no plans to seek involvement with other industry bodies at this time.”
Onions Australia also confirmed that it would not be joining VoH “at this stage”, nor would Strawberries Australia.
Other groups such as Cherry Growers Australia and the Australian Garlic Industry Association told Fairfax Media they were discussing joining VoH within their board or committee.
The Australian Blueberry Growers Association said it had no plans to join but would be discussing it within its committee.
The VoH was announced last December and draws together 21 horticultural industries.
It was established to coincide with the formation of the industry's research and development services company, Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd (HIA).
