PREMIER Fruits Group (PFG) has continued its national expansion strategy with the acquisition of two leading family farming and wholesaling businesses in South Australia; Freshway Farms, and Stam Fruit Supply.
Based at Yarraville in Melbourne, PFG now has operations across the country and has become one of Australia’s major fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers to a broad range of national and overseas customers.
Premier Fruits Group CEO Anthony Di Pietro said the acquisition of the two SA vegetable production and wholesale businesses completes a national PFG expansion strategy in production and distribution of fruit and vegetables.
“The SA acquisitions compliments the integrated PFG production and supply chain strategy across the country and supports growing domestic and export sales,” Mr Di Pietro said.
“The acquisitions allow PFG to further leverage its state of the art production and processing systems in its farms, pack houses, cold storage and distribution and sales centres.”
Freshway Farms was established in 1944 and spans three generations of a local farming family.
It specialises in growing and packing tomatoes, capsicums, cucumbers and zucchinis,
sourcing product from its own significant greenhouse (hydroponic) production facilities.
It is located at Virginia and Two Wells and has a strong grower network in the Virginia and Murray Bridge area.
Freshway Farms also operate a state of the art refrigerated packing facility equipped with
computerised packing machines to deliver efficiencies and packing quality outcomes which are both highly respected within the industry and in demand.
Stam Fruit Supply is a long standing local produce wholesaling business operating from the Adelaide Produce Market located at Pooraka.
To be rebadged as Premier Fruits Adelaide, the business services independent retailers, processors, and local and interstate wholesale agents with a soft vegetable product range offering including capsicums, cucumbers, eggplant, tomatoes and zucchinis.
Tony Spano of Freshway Farms and Peter Stam from Stam Fruit Supply will join the Premier Fruits Group business as local managers to oversee the continued growth and investment in production and supply chain systems and innovation.
