A LONGER than expected fruiting season has two major Queensland vegetable growing regions encouraging consumers to eat up.
Bowen Gumlu Growers Association Incorporated (BGGA) and Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Cooperative Ltd (BFVG) have extended their “Colour Your Winter” promotional slogan with campaign partner, the Brisbane Produce Market.
The campaign is designed to promote Queensland winter vegetables - in particular broccoli, capsicum, sweet corn and tomatoes.
This year will see many of those vegetables and more still available during the early spring season.
Although the Colour Your Winter campaign has been targeting mostly Brisbane consumers, the grower representative groups are eager for it to go further afield.
The campaign started last year as a pilot marketing program profiling Queensland capsicum at 30 independent greengrocers across Brisbane.
This year it has included an additional three vegetables promoted in more than 100 independent greengrocers, and has been supported by an advertising campaign.
Peter Hockings, executive officer, BFVG said Queensland produce can be the star of everyday meals and the Queensland horticulture industry wants to ensure this is promoted.
“Our safe, quality and diverse range of produce offers the perfect opportunity to add vibrant colour and tremendous natural flavours to any dish – providing a winning combination for the industry and consumers alike,” Mr Hockings said.
“Fruits, vegetables, nuts and herbs are an economical, fresh, versatile, healthy and fun way to colour your meals and add some great flavour.”
