THE importance in making the connection between consumers and food sources was recognised at this year's Fresh Awards with the presentation of two Blogger Awards.
These awards recognised bloggers who have created insightful and interesting stories about an independent greengrocer and/or florist, highlighting the seasonal fresh produce or flowers that they work with.
Anna Johnston, who writes the shenANNAgans blog, won the Best Greengrocer Story with her post featuring "Kenny the Coconut" and his food journey.
The Best Florist Story went to Lisa Tilse who writes We Are Scout, for her guide on how to arrange flowers.
The awards draw attention to the contribution of bloggers who, by sharing their passion for fresh produce with their audiences through their blogs and social media channels, encourage support for independent fresh produce and flower retailers.
Bloggers were critiqued on originality, information, expression and visual composition.
Fresh Awards manager Sue Dodd said including bloggers was an innovative step for the awards and made an important connection to those food influencers.
“We were delighted with the number of entries we received for the inaugural 2016 Fresh Awards blogging competition,” Ms Dodd said.
“Extending the Fresh Award accolades outside of the immediate industry and recognising the contribution that the blogging community plays in drawing attention to, and encouraging support of independent fresh produce and flower retailers is a first for this program.
"There are so many interesting and educational stories to be shared about fresh fruit, vegetable and flowers not to mention the florist and greengrocers who make this all possible at community level.
"Overtime this blogging competition hopes to encourage and inspire more bloggers to share these colourful stories with their online community.”
