COMMERCIAL fruit at the Royal Adelaide Show has again shone as one of he premier fruit sections among all the national shows.
Held from September 2 to 11, the show boasted an outstanding suite of entries into the commercial fruit section with extremely high fruit quality across all classes of apples and pears.
Lenswood's Harrisville Orchards, who have a long history of success at the show, took out the most successful exhibitor in the apple and tray classes.
However, they didn't have the competition all their own way with Appelinna Hills (also from Lenswood) featuring in their trays of Granny Smith and Golden Delicious.
Gilmours Orchards from Paracombe featured strongly in the pear classes, as most successful exhibitor in the tray and plate categories, while AA Magarey and Sons of Coromandel Valley featured with their nashi fruit.
Apple and Pear Growers Association of SA (APGASA) congratulated all the winners and all the exhibitors for such a high standard of fruit.
The award winning fruit from all of these Adelaide Hills based exhibitors was also on sale through the (APGASA) stand at the show, as well as being on display with the general public able to enjoy the high quality fruit the industry is able to deliver.
There was also juice on hand produced directly from South Australian fruit.
With more than 100 different growers and industry representatives helping out with the stand and display through the course of the show, it was also an ideal opportunity for the general public to meet the growers and ask questions about how their fruit is grown.
APGASA CEO Susie Green said the Adelaide Show is a major event for the industry each year as so many growers come together to put on the display and engage with the public.
“It is a wonderful way for us to showcase the best of our industry and in the true tradition of the show, bring the country to the city,” Ms Green said.
“Everyone involved has a great sense of pride in what we do and this really shows through with how our industry presents itself and how our growers interact with the public.
“Our apple and pear ‘slinkies’ have also become a great show tradition for many show-goers as a cheap, healthy, fun and refreshing snack."
