CALABRIA Family Wines has expanded its business to include a large Griffith-based facility.
The local business purchased the Cinzano-built Cranswick Estate from one of the world’s largest winemaker The Wine Group (TWG) site recently to boost storage and production facilities.
The transaction is scheduled to be settle later this month, and includes purchase of the winery, cellar door and warehousing.
The winery, includes more than 18 million litres of storage capacity, 3000 square metres of cold store warehousing and 22,000 tonnes of crushing capacity.
Calabria Wines General Manager Michael Calabria said the new acquisition is a big step forward for the local family
"This acquisition is a new chapter for our family and we are very excited to extend our reach to new and existing markets globally within the wine industry,” Mr Calabria said.
The purchase follows the Calabria family’s recent diversification into the Barossa Valley where it operates three premium vineyards and a cellar door, due to be opened in 2019.
The purchase of the TWG site means Calabria Family Wines now has a total storage capacity of more than 40 million litres, with two bottling lines capable of producing over 2 million cases annually.
Calabria Family Wines Sales and Marketing Manager Andrew Calabria said he believed the winery’s distribution reach provides an opportunity to increase sales across its export markets.
