MAJOR commercial seedling supplier Boomaroo Nurseries has become a major backer of next year's East Gippsland Vegetable Innovation Days at Lindenow, Victoria.
Building on the success of the Leafy Vegetable Demonstration Day held in May 2014, a bigger and better event over almost two days is scheduled for May 3 and 4, 2017 at Bulmer Farms on Main Road, Lindenow,
Boomaroo is a world class vegetable seedling producer supplying more than 300 million seedlings to vegetable growers across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
In addition to the colourful rows of new, innovative and favourite varieties growing in demonstration sites, there is to be an undercover Event Hub where presentations will be staged and an industry networking function in the Lindenow Hall on Wednesday evening, May 3, 2017.
Bulmer Farms managing director Andrew Bulmer said plans for next year’s industry event are well underway.
"We believe the whole township of Lindenow will get behind it. The demonstration area is opposite The Long Paddock cafe, in the heart of town," he said.
"We have the Lions Club cooking up a storm for breakfast, and now we have one of the biggest seedling companies in Australia coming onboard as major gold sponsor – it’s going to be massive.”
The East Gippsland Food Cluster’s industry development officer (for Gippland’s vegetable industry), Shayne Hyman, is secretary of the organising committee chaired by well-known agronomist Stuart Grigg.
Mr Hyman said the vegetable capacity building project being delivered by the East Gippsland Food Cluster and funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia (HIA) is playing a large role in this leading event because it targets growers from the locality, region, state and across Australia and promotes learning and development based on best-in-class practices and R&D.
“I am excited to join with Boomaroo Nurseries, Bulmer Farms, Stuart Grigg Ag-Hort Consulting and all the members of the industry-based organising committee to incorporate this home grown event into the Australia-wide calendar of the National Vegetable Extension Network and shine the spotlight on the vegetable industry in Gippsland; it is well-deserved," Mr Hyman said.
“My participation is endorsed by the East Gippsland Food Cluster using funds from the vegetable levy and the Australian government administered by Horticulture Innovation Australia aimed at giving growers the knowledge and services they require to build a profitable, competitive, and sustainable business — for today as well as tomorrow.”
