AUSTRALIA’s largest ever horticulture conference got underway in fine style at the Adelaide Convention Centre last night.
Organisers are expecting more than 2000 delegates to attend the three-day event which includes speaker sessions, workshops, field tours and plenty of networking opportunities.
The first of those opportunities happened at last night’s official launch as delegates were invited to inspect the trade display and enjoy food and beverages.
The event is the inaugural combination of the National Horticulture Convention and PMA Fresh Connections, two of the industry’s leading events.
All sectors of the horticulture supply chain are represented, from growers and packers to retailers, wholesalers, researchers, nurseries and beyond.
Conference speakers have been selected to cover the most pertinent issues for the entire industry, ranging from technology and big data to marketing and innovation.
Day one included a tour of the Toro manufacturing and production facility.
Special guest speakers include Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Senator Anne Ruston, and beyondblue chairman and former Victorian premier, Jeff Kennett, who will headline a panel forum on mental health.
Keynote sessions will be presented by Monash University’s ACRS managing director, Sean Sands, who will discuss opportunities to maximise value by designing customer-facing innovations and Jaquie Scammell from Jaquie Scammell Management Consulting who will highlight the importance of putting people into the heart of the food pyramid.
