TASMANIAN berry growers have shown off exactly how they do it, hosting hundreds of visitors as part of the BerryQuest International 2018 farm tours.
Having sat through plenty of information in both plenary and concurrent sessions the previous two days, delegates were keen to explore the workings of some regional berry farms.
With Queensland fruit fly and blueberry rust front of mind, biosecurity measures were stringent with footbaths and protective booties all standard requirements for entering the properties.
Between the two tours (a long and a short tour), guests were shown Burlington Berries, Cressy; Tasmanian Berries, Exton; Mountford Berries, Longford; Hillwood Berry Farm, Hillwood; and Forager Foods, Red Hills.
Breezy conditions highlighted the benefits of protective cropping, such as polytunnels, while various new lines from Driscoll’s were also shown.
