Bundaberg celebrates becoming macadamia capital

Food Heroes is wrapping up in Bundaberg in style, with a dinner to celebrate the local macadamia industry.

IT is a good time to be a macadamia grower.

More than 100 people gathered at the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Research Station, Bundaberg to celebrate the local industry and listen to the bright prospects for the future.

In the past six years the industry has seen an annual growth rate of eight per cent with predictions indicating further expansion.

Growers and inquisitive locals heard from the Australian Macadamia Society, NAB, Horticulture Innovation Australia and researchers to discuss the all important industry question, can demand keep up with supply?

Another large crowd has come together tonight at The Waves Sports Club, Bundaberg for a dinner and panel session.
