QUEENSLAND'S fresh produce wholesaling industry turned winter into a wonderland of style last Friday night with the staging of the Brisbane Produce Market Gala Dinner, held at the Brisbane Entertainment and Convention Centre.
More than 500 wholesalers, buyers, grower representatives and Brisbane Markets' top sponsors who supply the industry were treated to a night of wining, dining, illusion and musical comedy.
More than $7500 was raised for Diabetes Queensland from a raffle on the night with emcee and renowned sports journalist and radio personality, Ben Davis, making a personal plea to be generous as he shared his experience of having a daughter living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Entertainment included mentalist Anthony Laye, who had the crowd spellbound during a Russian roulette nail gun challenge.
The tension was electric as the entertainer stood blind folded waiting for his audience participant to pick up the tool and fire at him, but she had mistakenly picked up the wrong one, much to the delight of the audience.
Musical comedy duo Rusty and Another Guy saw performers Rusty Berther and Mike McLeish make up their own song about the Brisbane Produce Market especially for the evening, while 11 piece band, Magic Carpet Ride, had the dance floor full.
Other features included the staging of the annual Brisbane Markets Fun in the Markets video and a first look at the Your Local Fruit Shop campaign’s advertisement featuring NRL legend Sam Thaiday and a team of participating fruit shop owners.
The Brisbane Produce Market Gala Dinner has a long history, with similar events being staged throughout the 53 years that the Brisbane Markets has occupied the Rocklea site.
