ABOUT 50 growers and industry representatives braved the heat to see the RIPPA (Robot for Intelligent Perception and Precision Application) in action at the Greater Sydney Local Land Services demonstration farm on Friday, December 1.
Created through the Horticulture Innovation Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems in the University of Sydney’s Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR), RIPPA aims to benefit the vegetable industry by undertaking a number of farming activities autonomously.
Greater Sydney officer Peter Conasch said it was only the second time the robot had been showcased in the Sydney basin.
"It's great to see industry, government and the university sector come together to support innovation in the horticultural industry as part of the Greater Sydney Local Land Services VegNET NSW project which is funded by Hort Innovation using the vegetable levy and funding from the federal government.”
