Tasmania’s best leatherwood honey title went to Jeff Bourke at Australian Honey Products for the second time in three years.
Mr Bourke received the title at the Tasmanian Beekeepers Association annual general meeting at Tamar Valley Resort, Grindlewald, on Saturday.
Along with best leatherwood, Mr Bourke also won best native flora, best introduced flora and best honey mead at the meeting.
He will now compete in the national honey awards at the third Australian Bee Congress held on the Gold Coast next month.
Australian Honey Products won the Champion Australian Product Trophy and Champion Australian Pantry Goods Trophy for its Sheffield Honey Farm leatherwood honey in September.
Tasmanian leatherwood honey has been impacted by expanding agriculture, unseasonal weather and bushfires in recent years.
Tasmanian Beekeepers Association president and Australian Honeybee Industry Council chairman Lindsay Bourke called for some of the $750,000 funding announced by the state government for beekeeping to be used to increase leatherwood access.
