AN avocado grower from WA is encouraging women in horticulture to nominate for the 2019 Telstra Business Women’s Awards

In 2017, Jennifer Franceschi of Karri Country Produce won the Western Australian Business Woman of the Year at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards.

Ms Franceschi has worked in the avocado industry since her first summer job in 1974 and has built several agri businesses including Fresh Produce Alliance.

One year on, Ms Franceschi says winning the award has driven her to work with more women and to find ways to empower them, to take their place in the industry.

“One thing that had become very apparent to me is women bring to the table a totally different perspective,” she said.

“Women get things done and while financial remuneration is important, I think women in general have different motivators.

“I think women are far more capable of seeing the big picture and are more solutions focused, rather than problem focused.

“The businesses that do not put women at the table will not be as relevant as businesses that do.”

Telstra Business Women’s Awards Ambassador, Robyn Denholm, said many of the most successful women in business have one thing in common.

“They are mavericks who use their own unique business approach to redefine the status quo,” Ms Denholm said.

“By undoing traditional approaches to business, they are setting examples to inspire others. Through the Telstra Business Women’s Awards we want to empower more business women, to become mavericks and to thrive in this ever-competitive business world.

“Women in leadership, who are transforming the way we do business, deserve to be recognised so I encourage you to nominate an outstanding business woman today, or even better nominate yourself.”

Nominations for the 2019 Telstra Business Women’s Awards close on November 8.
