WITH a laugh, Colin Gazzola reckons there was one key reason he invested in a Koldtek rental two-pallet vacuum cooler: "Sleep deprivation."
But the director of Gazzola Farms, Somerville, Victoria, says there was more to it than convenience.
"We needed to supplement the cooling system we already have, due to extra production in the high production times," Mr Gazzola said.
"Previously we were cooling lettuce up until 10 o’clock at night. We needed to get the volume cooled quicker.

"With the two-pallet vac cooler we can cool two pallets in 20 minutes and that includes loading and unloading."
Mr Gazzola was drawn to the Koldtek design because the door on the vac cooler opens right to left.
Another grower who rents two of the machines advised him to contact Koldtek.
Koldtek provided Gazzola Farms with a high grade, high standard machine, which Mr Gazzola described as being "probably top of the tree as far as vac coolers go".
"Even refrigeration guys down here have commented on the quality of build, how simple and organised it is," he said.
"It’s a very well thought-out machine. Extremely easy to work on if you had to. Even just the transportation; it ticks all those boxes."
Mr Gazzola said looking at how it’s been manufactured, the components on it, how quick the cooling times are and even the opening and closing door speed made it all very user friendly.
The installation of the vacuum cooler on Gazzola Farms also impressed the third generation farmer.
"The day the machine arrived, our machine had a problem, it was nothing major but he had a quick look and he found the problem," Mr Gazzola said.
He described Koldtek as being only a phone call away, meaning support was always available.
"It’s a good product, a clean looking product. It looks good compared to some. Also, being stainless steel, it’s really easy to clean. It’s just a good machine; I really like it," he said.
Koldtek will be at Hort Connections in Melbourne from June 24 to 26.
