Sydney Markets opens new hub and learning space

They won't be the last school group to get an insight to markets life either, with invitation officially going out to other schools. 

The organisation opened, Sydney Markets Central, a new building which will enable the Markets to streamline processes and transactions for stakeholders, traders and guests.

It will also increase the Markets' capacity to run workshops, tours and excursions.

Utilising this new space, primary school students are now invited to register for free excursions at Sydney Markets, as part of their "Fresh for Kids" program.

Trained guides will navigate students through the early morning hustle and bustle of the markets, meeting growers, wholesalers and inspecting Sydney Markets' industry-leading sustainability initiatives.

Students from Fairvale Public School in Fairfield officially launched the new excursion program, cutting the ceremonial ribbon to Sydney Markets Central and experiencing the very first taste of new the excursion program.

Sydney Markets chief executive officer, Brad Latham, said Sydney Markets Central will become a vital hub bringing together market staff, stakeholders and the wider the community.

"Sydney Markets Central will make sure that we continue to evolve - it will increase the efficiency of our processes, utilising new technologies and providing a learning space that will bring our community together," Mr Latham said.

"We're always eager to welcome new visitors to Sydney Markets. We are proud to be launching a new school excursions initiative today, as part of our 'Fresh for Kids' program.

"Fresh for Kids has been running for 20 years and this will be a fantastic addition to the program - offering students a unique 'behind the scenes' insight into the workings of our centralised marketplace."
