FOR the eighth year in a row, the mango industry staked its claim as the fruit of summer with its all-out public awareness campaign at Bondi Beach.
The Mango Mess-tival was held on the first day of summer, December 1, at the North Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club with growers being brought in to discuss varieties with the public and talk about the mango growing process.
The event included grower stalls, sampling, mango cheeks on the barbecue, a fruit carver, plus plenty of music.

There were also the traditional, and messy, mango-eating competitions with many young mango fans indulging in their favourite fruit.
An initiative of the Australian Mango Industry Association, the event was part of a few days of grower-focused information-gathering with a market tour giving growers an insight into where their fruit goes after leaving the farm.
The Mango Mess-tival gathered significant media attention as well, helping to push out the message that mangoes were in season.
