THE vegetable industry appointed industry development officers in every state in 1999.

It was one of the issues to make the news pages of the March 1999 edition of Good Fruit & Vegetables.

The magazine is celebrating 30 years of printing and subsequently is showing some pictures from the past.

That edition covered the launch of a local stonefruit brand, Swan Hill Farmers Choice, grown by farmers of that area.

Australian food company, Harvest FreshCuts invested more than one million dollars in a semi-automated sandwich factory designed to meet consumer demand for fresh, safe and convenient sandwiches.

The Enterprise of the Month was the strawberry industry in south west Western Australia which, at the time, was regarded as one of the state's strongest export performers with values growing 33 per cent during 1997/98 and more than 82pc in the past five years.
