SUPERMARKET chain Aldi is upping its marketing of fresh fruit with the introduction of the “Li’l Snackerz” range.
Li’l Snackerz is a line of small-sized fruit including apples, mandarins, pears and bananas utilising fruit which would have historically been used for juicing due to their weight being under specifications.
The supermarket is calling the new range a win for local farmers as well because it utilises a larger proportion of fresh produce crops.
An Aldi spokesperson said Li’l Snackerz fruit is the same high quality, fresh produce that customers expect from their supermarket but simply smaller, due to farming or weather conditions.
“We are extremely excited to bring this new line into our stores. It will offer shoppers more variety and is a great example of how we are consistently working with growers and suppliers to ensure a maximum utilisation of fruits and vegetables throughout the year,” the spokesperson said.
The release of the fruit line has been timed to coincide with parents preparing to send their children back to school after the school holidays.
The smaller sized fruit is more easily handled by children, who are drawn to the likeable sporty characters on the re-sealable packaging.
“We’ve introduced Arnie Apple, Bradley Banana, Mike Mandarin and Penny Pear as a friendly face showing children the fun in fruit,” the Aldi spokesperson said.
“Regardless of age, Li’l Snackerz are a healthy snack that’s quick to eat for anyone on the go, or anyone looking to enjoy a greater variety of fruit throughout the day.”
Li’l Snackerz are now available at Aldi stores in 750g packs for $2.99 (Apples, Pears and Mandarins) and $1.99 for bananas.
