THE Victorian strawberry industry is on the promotional trail, and a strawberry pizza is leading the charge.
The Victorian Strawberry Industry Development Committee in association with the Victorian Strawberry Growers Association has released a series of recipes to encourage consumers to chow down on the popular berry.
A peppered balsamic strawberry pizza is just one of the culinary combinations suggested, as is a strawberries and cream cookie sandwich, a Thai strawberry salad with squid skewers and a summer strawberry pie.
Growers at more than 100 farms across the State have begun the season which will run through until May.
The timing of the season allows the promotional campaign to target key calendar dates such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Mother’s Day, all with the potential to include strawberry-related gifts.
Victorian Strawberries is also promoting the health benefits of the fruit.
“With just 54 calories per cup of sliced, fresh strawberries, Victorian Strawberries are the guilt-free, anytime snack perfect for you and your family,” the promotional material says.
