This May, NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is offering free olive oil classification classes at the Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute.
NSW DPI Australian Olive Oil Sensory Panel leader, Donna Seberry, said the two-week course will run from Monday May 7.
“We’ll be tasting local olive oils and oil from around the world, as participants learn how to classify olive oil,” Ms Seberry said.
“Those who complete the course may be eligible to join the internationally accredited Australian Olive Oil Sensory Panel.
“The course will train participants to recognise extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), which suits premium markets.
“As part of the appreciation of the sensory aspects of olive oil, we will discuss how olive oil is produced, how production can affect the flavour and train participants to identify defects in olive oil.
The course runs from May 7 to May 18, Monday to Friday at 6 pm until 9 pm.
