STRAWBERRY growers have come out in force to say a special thank you to Australia for supporting the industry through the contamination during September and October.
Queensland Strawberry Growers Association industry development officer Jennifer Rowling said like all farmers producing food for Australia, strawberry growers took pride in the quality and integrity of their produce.
“The tampering incidents in September-October 2018 were extremely disheartening and troubling,” Ms Rowling said.
“But, strawberries are well and truly back on the family dinner table and part of traditional seasonal celebrations.”
Ms Rowling said growers sincerely appreciated that consumers had recognised there was no issue with the fruit and requested their local stores to return fresh strawberries to the shelves.
“It was people-power that got the industry back on its feet again so quickly and the growers are now saying thank you in their own special way,” she said.
As well as placing advertisement in newspapers across Queensland thanking consumers, growers have released a video to say thank you directly from their families to the families of Australia.
