EXCITEMENT and support for the International Spinach Conference is building, with Bayer now confirmed as the event's major sponsor and many of the world's leading spinach seed breeders also providing sponsorship.

Darren Wood, ANZ commercial lead for vegetables by Bayer, is "proud to support the International Spinach Conference as the major sponsor, as it brings together industry experts and stakeholders to foster innovation and collaboration in the spinach industry".
The conference will deliver a jam-packed program from RMIT University's top-class facilities right in the middle of Melbourne on Monday, May 1.

The organising committee is assembling the world's leading researchers and experts from across the spinach industry's supply chain to present on a broad array of topics.
Notably, these will include Distinguished Professor Jim Correll from the University of Arkansas and Dr Lindsey du Toit from Washington State University.
They have both long been involved in delivering the conference to the world's spinach industry and are highly acclaimed researchers in their own right.
Professor Correll's extensive research has included a focus on downy mildew in spinach and integrated management practices.
Dr Lindsey du Toit, also a plant pathologist, will bring her expert knowledge on diseases affecting spinach including Fusarium and Verticillium wilt.
Spinach portfolio massively upgraded
BAYER, as the major sponsor, will present its new, extensive and massively upgraded spinach portfolio that's coming to market

"We look forward to welcoming spinach industry experts, growers and stakeholders as we demonstrate a number of exciting commercial and pre commercial Seminis spinach varieties as well as Bayer crop protection products at the conference."
Other topics which will be covered will include damping off complex, organic spinach production, food safety of leafy vegetables and global consumer trends, ensuring that there will be plenty of content for growers, marketers and all others involved in the industry to learn.
Cruise and connect on the Yarra
ON the Monday evening, delegates will be treated to Bayer's Spinach Industry Networking Cruise along the Yarra River, which has been included in the cost of the registration.
This is sure to be a fun opportunity to meet fellow industry members from across the world, with the beautiful Melbourne city lights as a backdrop.
The following day, all are invited out to Boratto Farms in Bacchus Marsh to check out the latest spinach genetics on display.
As well as vegetables by Bayer, Rijk Zwaan, Enza Zaden, BASF/Nunhems and Bejo will have trials on display.
A seat on the bus will be offered to registered delegates who don't have their own transport from the city.
