Gold Coast-based Coastal Hydroponics and Salad Makers is using a Rural Economic Development (RED) Grant from the Qld government to install the new facility which will also help increase production, enabling produce to be processed, stored and distributed from greenhouse to consumer within one day.
Construction of the new packing facility will be completed by next year, creating up to eight direct, full-time jobs.
Coastal Hydroponics and Salad Makers director, Belinda Frentz, said the technology will feature temperature-controlled monitoring systems and enable increased production for the family business.
Coastal Hydroponics and Salad Makers is one of 24 businesses approved for the fifth round of the competitive RED grants program with a total funding of $3.9 million.
Qld agriculture minister Mark Furner said the activities funded under Round Five of the program support a diverse range of industries from a meat snacks processing line and livestock supplement manufacturing to high-tech nursery production and horticultural produce cooling, processing, and packaging facilities.
We want to give even more agricultural businesses a chance to grow, which is why later this year we will be opening applications for Round Six of this great program," Mr Furner said.
A sixth round of RED Grants, supporting Indigenous-owned agribusinesses and projects aimed at low-emissions agriculture, has been allocated for the 2023-24 financial year, with applications to open later this year.
