CSIRO Agriculture and Food is calling for expressions of interest from commercial partners to help bring new table grape selections to market.
CSIRO commenced its table grape breeding program in the 1960s to develop new seedless table grape varieties adapted to Australian conditions that would produce consistent yields of large berries with visual appeal and good flavour and texture.
The primary aim of the program has been to identify the potential for new commercial varieties that address problems of existing varieties and/or have distinctive attributes that would enable the Australian table grape industry to differentiate its product in export markets.
The program has resulted in a range of advanced table grape selections representing significant innovation in the table grape sector.
CSIRO is now making these advanced selections available for evaluation and commercialisation to suitably skilled integrated businesses associated with the table grape industry.
CSIRO Agriculture and Food business development manager, Dr Susan Hani, said the selections offer the opportunity to deliver benefit to the Australian table grape industry through the commercialisation of new distinctive varieties adapted to local conditions.
Interested parties can request more information, including access to EOI submission documentation, by contacting Dr Hani via e-mail: susan.hani@csiro.au.
Submissions close 5pm AEDT, March 1, 2024.
