THE South Australian strawberry season was officially launched at Romeo's Rundle Mall last November.
The event included a cooking demonstration from Pick A Local, Pick SA ambassador and MasterChef, Callum Hann, who showed what could be done with the bountiful local produce.
Other parts to the day included strawberry sampling and a cheesecake decorating competition.
Not only did the event aim to support SA strawberry growers, it also raised funds for the Childhood Cancer Association.
Seven Adelaide Hills strawberry growers each donated a pallet of strawberries, with all proceeds of the sales of the strawberries at the shop through the day donated to the charity.
More than $3300 was raised.
South Australian minister for primary industries and regional development, David Basham, officially launched the season.
Market Fresh SA's Pick a Local, Pick SA campaign manager, Penny Reidy, said SA strawberries were good to go right now.
"Local strawberries are now in season, consumers can find sweet to eat strawberries being supplied by local growers," Ms Reidy said.
"The greatest support South Australians can give our strawberry industry is to buy local."
"Whether on a pavlova, or in a fruit salad, everyone loves strawberries in summer."
